We wanted to continue the graduation fever this week (especially since we KNOW there are going to be a ton of occasions to celebrate this weekend!) with one more super easy – and adorable! – DIY to add some sweetness to your parties. These graduation cap cupcake toppers are simple to make (so simple that I made them while hanging out at Fernanda’s BBQ on the weekend) but are the perfect touch of something special. You’ll see.
All you need is some construction paper and yellow string. All I had was yarn but it still did the trick. First, cut a square and a long rectangle out of black cardstock. Roll your rectangle up into a circle and glue closed. Use tape to adhere the circle to the bottom of your square to make the “cap” shape.
Gently push a toothpick or skewer through the top of the “cap”, and tie your yard (or glue!) around the tip of the toothpick. You can fray the bottom of the yarn or make half of a mini pom pom by wrapping the yarn around two fingers a couple times, tying a small piece around the loops, and then cutting one side so it “frays” like the tassel of a graduation cap.
And that’s it! Add to some sweet treats and you have these adorable summer grad desserts. Congrats to the class of 2015!
