As every 20something knows, there’s only so long you can ride on the coattails of your mother assuring you the “best gifts” were the ones that you “handmade”. That’s super cute when you’re five and your teacher prompts you through a finger painted card, or when your 14, aware it’s a little out of bounds but spending hours on a mason jar snow globe – but once you hit 20 it starts to get awkward when all your gifts have glue on them. You need a DIY for grownups.
Luckily, today’s Mother’s Day gift idea is the perfect solution to a budget friendly AND easy DIY gift she’ll love – bath bombs! Paired with our printable Mom You’re The Bomb box tag, bath bombs that you make yourself are personal yet practical. Now, there are tons of recipes out there teaching you how to make your own bath bombs at home. And I was going to go that route, but then I found this at Michaels:
Let the craft gods rejoice, because with a 40% one regular item coupon and a packed social calendar, a DIY kit with everything you need to make bath bombs is sort of my jam. It comes with three pretty pastel colours and a pink lemonade scent perfect for spring. Honestly turns out I’m very bad at mixing chemicals, but if you read the directions more carefully than I did (wait, only a tablespoon of water? wait, why is my bowl overflowing…) they’ll turn out fine. The kit has enough ingredients for five bombs, but I only managed three, and only one was cute. If I could redo the process, I’d skip the sphere mold and go for a heart shape cookie cutter, and just scrape the excess off until it firmed up. Live and learn.
Still, these babies are meant to be dissolved, so really they don’t need to be that perfect. Once they’ve dried completely, package them up in a sweet little box and add our printable card on top. It’s fun and pretty – the perfect Mother’s Day combo!
