This easy DIY welcome mat is your answer to a last minute gift idea (or the perfect finishing touch for your front door!)
‘Tis the season for gift giving, and with bridal showers, engagement parties, dinners with friends, and the holidays pending, it’s getting hard to keep those gift ideas fresh and personal. Today we’re sharing a DIY that’s so easy, it’s the perfect last minute gift idea for a hostess, or friends celebrating their new home, or even to jazz up your entryway before family arrives for the holidays – a welcome mat!
We’re showcasing a super easy project today that costs about $5 and makes a sweet and thoughtful hostess gift! This DIY welcome mat is a little bit cheeky but a whole bunch of cute. All you need is a plain welcome mat (I got this one from IKEA for about $5), fabric (waterproof) paint, and our Oh Hey There stencil. Want to get creative? We love that. You can easily make your own stencil with your own saying – keep it simple with a pretty script Welcome, or show a little personality with something fun and unique to your family. Still out of ideas? If you’re gifting your mat to someone, why not use their last name? It’s easy but still the perfect touch of personal.
If you can, cut your stencil out on vinyl so it will stick to your mat. This will make painting it much easier. I used my circuit to cut out the letters, but using a sharp knife would work just as well. Don’t worry if the stencil doesn’t stick perfectly to the mat. The material of most welcome mats will be forgiving. Use a foam brush to get the most paint in one area. Let it dry for a few hours before removing the stencil. Spray with a clear sealant to make sure it’ll stand up to some wear and tear (and the weather if your hostess doesn’t have a covered porch!).
And that’s it – the perfect playful touch for any modern hostess!
