We’re living on the edge and changing things up at the Party Girl. And by living on the edge I mean that actually we are so completely the opposite of people who live on the edge that we realized we would NEVER plan our weekends on a Friday. What am I doing this weekend? Oh, let me check my day planner where I penciled something in two weeks ago. Oh you want to spontaneously hit up a foodie event downtown? I don’t have time to be spontaneous until September. So if I’m that high strung, how can we possibly expect you guys to plan amazing weekends in Toronto the day of?
So we’re introducing: Weekender Wednesdays! First of all, Wednesdays were lonely days anyways, and we missed blogging. Also, I appreciate the alliteration. This means you have a couple days to text your friends, get your tickets, and plan your days without the last minute scramble. You’re welcome.
CNE + Celebrity Expert Jeanne Beker
Friday marks the official sign of summer wrapping up: the CNE starts at the Ex! This year they have an amazing line up of celebrity guest speakers, and Friday’s kick off features iconic fashion expert and media style correspondent Jeanne Beker. Take a break from the midway and get some style savvy tips at the Direct Energy Centre 2-3 and 5-6.
Parking Lot Party
Looking for something a little more on the wild side Friday night? Legendary charitable (?) party team Dudebox are hosting the ultimate underground party at Toronto landmark Honest Eds in – get this – the secret underground parking lot. I can’t make this stuff up. For the bargain price of $9.99 a la Honest Ed’s reputation, you can join the revellers AND feel like you’re doing good (while doing very, very bad to your liver) since 80% of the proceeds go to charity Wellspring.
I don’t know how to adequately describe how much I love Sail-Ins. There is nothing in this world more fun than wearing cozy sweaters, bundling up with blankets and snacks, and watching Jaws while floating in the harbour. I promise you. If you aren’t lucky enough to know somebody with a boat, you still get the same level of fun from the sandy beach.
It’s as easy as it sounds: grab your friends, get your free tickets online (click the picture above) and show up early to settle in a snag the best view. It’s fun, you get to watch some classic movies all weekend, and it’s free. Those are like the best kinds of entertainment.
Amsterdam 416 Block Party
If you’re feeling something a little more lively, Amsterdam Brewery is hosting another summer patio party with free beer flowing Saturday night from 6pm to 11pm at 25 Kensington Ave in the market. There will be rooftop tunes, a live art exhibit, and did we mention free beer? There’s a $15 entrance fee but if you get there early your pretty much set for the breweries finest so it seems like a small price to pay.
One of my favourite ways to spend a Sunday (post brunch of course) is wandering around farmers and flea markets. Unfortunately with my busy schedule I very rarely get to enjoy that indulgence, but this weekend I may have to make an exception. Every 3rd Sunday of the month you can find the Leslieville Flea at the Ashbridge Estate in the Beaches. Check out the amazing vendors – and bring a van if you can get your hands on one, you won’t go home empty handed!
Plan ahead Party Girls, this weekend is full of events waiting for you. What do you think you’ll head down to? Looking for the perfect Sunday plan? Make us jealous and have brunch at new Parisian-style cafe Colette before hitting the flea (and post partying at the Kensington block party perhaps?). We’re dying to check it out!
