Breathe through that turkey coma – you’ve got things to do in Toronto this weekend!
This weekend is Thanksgiving, and that means for a lot of us we’ll be traveling from family dinner to family dinner, so maybe you don’t have time for events in Toronto this weekend. BUT, what kind of friend would we be if we didn’t give you the option to earn those turkeys with some daytime adventures downtown?
Grab your day planners, we have the roundup of where you should be this weekend!
Toronto Mini Maker Faire
The Mini Maker Faire combines two of my favourite things, Absolut and craftiness.Billed as “Nuit Blanch without the crowds” and “Burning Man without the desert” (both environments I appreciate not having to participate in) the Faire is a celebration of playing and making. They’re being very vague about what you can find there, but they promise drinks made with science, so that seems like a good enough reason to go right there. Check it out Friday October 10 6:30-10:30pm at The Theatre Centre (1115 Queen St W). Get tickets here.
Halloween Haunt @ Canada’s Wonderland
I’m going to be completely honest, you won’t find me at Halloween Haunt or Screemers this year. That’s because I am ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED of being terrified like that, in a public place, with people jumping out at you. Oh god, the nightmares. BUT, if you’re less of a giant chicken (i.e. the rest of the twenty-somethings out there) then you’re in luck, because October means Wonderland isn’t just fun and games. There’s a bunch of different pass options to get as much (or as little) horror as you want, so visit their website to start making some plans.
Since I already said I can’t handle the stress of real life nightmares, I’m going to use this space to share with you an emotional story called “My Friends Are Horrible People”. Once upon a time we went to this haunted corn maze outside of Ottawa, because that “sounded like fun”. It was about to rain pretty much all night, so we warmed up with some cider and beers in this little barn. It was sweet…EXCEPT WE GOT CHASED BY A GUY WITH A CHAINSAW AND I FELL DOWN IN THE MUD RUNNING AWAY. I’m still not over it. Anyways, apparently Screemers is the grown up version of Halloween Haunt, which, since they both look terrifying, I’m going to call “pee your pants” scary. If that’s your brand of terror, get your info here.
Toronto Flower Market
It breaks my heart to say it, but summer is over, and so too is the Toronto Flower Market. This Saturday 10-3pm is your last day to get fresh blooms from local vendors at 1056 Queen St. I feel like I can’t express enough why you should stop by to pick up some bouquets for your hostesses this weekend, so I’m going to share some pictures from people who have actually gone and loved it.
Toronto Lifestyle Market
The Lifestyle Market is like the cool older sister of the pop-up shop care of Gladstone Hotel. Think of it as all the interesting, talented brands you’ve admired being handpicked and hosted all week. During the day you can mix and mingle with the merchandise and then at night there check out some local talent showcases. The Market runs October 8-12th, but you can get more details here.
How’s that for a long weekend? Between some late night scares and some post-brunch blooms, there’s something for everyone in T.O this weekend!
