Let’s celebrate the holidays with a twisted candy cane manicure!
December is such a wonderful month! It is the month of bright lights, beautiful trees, chocolate, warm cozy days and enjoying the joy of the holiday season. Last night I helped my mom set up the Christmas tree and while we listened to some wonderful Christmas music. It was honestly such a fun time. While we were putting on the ornaments I found some old plastic candy canes we used years ago for the tree, and it inspired me to try a candy cane mani to fully dive into the holidays!
I have to say I wasn’t sure how this would turn out, but I ended up really liking this nail design. It’s fairly simple, it just requires patience . To do this mani you’ll need a white nail polish (I used ESSIE “blanc”), a red nail polish (Ciate “espadrilles”), tape (which you will cut into different size stripes), scissors, and a base coat and top coat (mine is Sally Hansen Complete Care)
First begin by painting the base colour, in this case white. At first I was going to do the nail design on all of the nails but after doing three I thought it was enough so I painted the other two nails with the red nail polish.
Next place the stripes on the nail. The key here is add them diagonally, inter-lapping and make the stripes different sizes to create that twisted look. You need to make sure your base nail polish is fully dried before you start placing the tape, you don’t want to ruin the nail polish with the sticky tape.
Once the tape is on you can paint over the tape with the red nail polish. It looks really messy in my picture but it was actually not that bad, and it’ll look much better once you’re all done.
Immediately remove the tape, before the red nail polish dries to avoid any smudges. Once you are finished taking the tape off your nail design will look something like this:
Repeat these steps with the next two nails and finish off with a top coat to add shininess and protect the nail polish.
Hope you liked this festive nail design, now let us know what other holiday manicures you’ll be rocking this season!
