Welcome to Lo’s 5th Birthday “Barbie Surf” Party!
Since I started planning their parties, my sisters have gotten extremely creative with their party themes. Since they’re so young I can only imagine this means I have years of progressively more complicated parties to plan. Thank god I’m insane. I actually love the challenge of giving these little girls exactly what they dream of for their birthdays. It’s ridiculous, and indulgent, and our poor father hasn’t quite resigned himself to what I can only imagine will be a nightmare in their teens. But I love it.
For Lo’s 5th birthday she requested a Barbie surf party. To be fair, she first asked if we could replicate the Frozen Fourth party we did last year, which I vehemently refused (but she was four, so I spent Easter weekend convincing her to play on Pinterest. This was my mistake). And so was born the most bizarre mashup of party themes ever.
It actually turned out super fun, and adorable, and she loved every minute of it. She greeted people at the door with “hello, it’s my birthday party!” which was so obnoxious I have never felt more proud. <3
It poured rain all day which meant some creative problem solving with the piñata, but didn’t mean the kids weren’t in the pool all afternoon.
Here are some snapshots before the chaos. We combined some luau inspired decorations with some custom surf boards (c/o an exacto knife – Justin was alarmed – foam board and paint) and Barbie cupcake favours. We made pink lemonade and a tiki-bar cup stand with coconut cups and hibiscus straws and an inflatable palm tree.
Lo had the best time.
