A St. Patrick’s Day classic shamrock shake recipe with an Irish twist
Are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day correctly if you aren’t spiking all your recipes? The answer is probably yes, but it’s way more fun this way. Today’s mint chocolate chip shamrock shake recipe is delicious on the best of days, but with a shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream it’s a little piece of a heaven. Shamrock shakes are a tradition in my family, and while as a kid I loved having ice cream for breakfast, as an adult it’s the Irish twist I look forward to the most.
The trick to the perfect mint chocolate chip is simple: make sure you’re using real cream. This seems obvious, BUT if you’ve never taken the time to read an ice cream container you’d be surprised how many say “frozen dessert”. You need the real stuff to get that perfect creamy consistency.
These shakes are the perfect treat for a special brunch, or as a fun dessert. You could even keep it PG and skip the Bailey’s to treat your littles! Get the recipe below and make your own.
Mint Chocolate Chip Spiked Shamrock Shake
3 scoops (real) mint chocolate chip ice cream
3oz Bailey’s Irish Cream (regular)
1/4 cup milk
a couple drops green food colouring (the mint ice cream won’t be enough for a true green)
Blend the first four ingredients together in a blender until the ice cream is completely smooth. Pour into a glass and top with whip cream. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top for the perfect treat.
Garnish with this easy DIY shamrock paper straw. Cut out a shamrock shape and glue it to a green paper straw for a super cute (but super easy!) decorative flare.
And there you have it! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
